How many electrical outlets should each room have?

Modern building codes typically recommend one outlet every 6 to 12 feet. Most rooms have five to six outlets, but older homes often fall short. Adding outlets helps reduce the need for extension cords, which can be a fire hazard.

Is it safe to replace a two-prong outlet with a three-prong one?

Not without adding a ground wire. Simply swapping the faceplate is unsafe and illegal in Georgia. Instead, we recommend rewiring or using a GFCI outlet as a safer alternative in some cases.

What is a tamper-resistant outlet?

Tamper-resistant outlets include a built-in shutter that prevents foreign objects (like keys or paperclips) from being inserted. These are required in new Georgia homes to prevent electrical injuries, especially to children.

Can water short out an outlet?
