An air conditioning inspection and tune up is typically performed in early spring before you heavily rely on the system to keep your home cool. When inspecting the indoor coil, the technician will:

Examine wiring, connectors, insulation and contactor points – to ensure safe electrical operation Check that the capacitor is within rated levels – to ensure your unit starts every time you need cooling Check that the amperage on both the condenser fan and compressor is within range – high amperage could mean an impending problem due to a unit functioning improperly Check for evidence of leaks – much like the radiator in your car, you should never leak refrigerant or have to “top off” a unit Check the refrigerant level – proper refrigerant levels ensures you get the maximum efficiency and comfort all summer long Clean the condenser coil – this important service removes dirt and debris from the outdoor unit, which left untreated, could rob you of up to 30% of the units cooling ability, several years of life expectancy, and consume 37% more energy. When checking the air flow, the technician will:
Make sure air filters are clean and replace old filters Balance the rotation of the blower wheel – to prevent premature failure of the fan motor Clean the wheel and blower compartment Make sure blower mounts and screws are tight Check that wire connections are tight and insulated Confirm the blower motor amperage is within appropriate limits Lubricate the fan motor and check the fan relay Make sure any air temperature differences are within tolerance During an AC inspection, the technician will make sure your thermostat has batteries and is programmed properly and look at components that affect indoor air quality.
To check the indoor air quality, a technician will make sure your ducts are appropriately sealed to prevent leaks and may recommend a duct cleaning and duct sealing if there are any leaks present. The UV light purification system and the Fresh Air Exchange will also be checked to make sure it’s functioning properly.
