The warmer weather is around the corner and before you know it, summer will be here. That means hot weather, thick humidity and an overworked AC unit. You certainly don’t want to be stuck in July with a broken AC system, so we encourage you to be proactive. Here are few tips to keep your AC system cooling and ensuring that energy bills stays low.
Look at your filters
You want to be sure that your filters aren’t clogged with dust and debris. A clogged filter will make your system work harder and increase your energy bills.
Check the outdoor unit
Yes, that big box outside of your house. Debris like twigs, plants and other items should be clear of the outside unit. The recommendation is that those items are about 2 feet away from the unit. Once the debris gets into the unit, it could cause the system to lose capacity.
Programmable or Smart Thermostat
If you haven’t already converted over to a Smart Thermostat, it may be time to upgrade. These thermostats help you control your home’s temperature remotely. Be sure to keep your house warmer while you’re away in the summer to save on energy consumption, and turn the AC on to your desired temperature before you get home.
Get your AC system tuned-up
It’s the time of year to contact your Bardi experts and have them come out to tune-up your system. Whether it’s through our Friends of Bardi preventative maintenance program or a onetime tune-up, we’ll perform a 15-point inspection on your system to ensure no future system failures.
It may be time to replace
If you find yourself having to constantly repair the unit, or your energy bills are getting higher or if the unit is over 10 years old, it may be time to replace. Outdated HVAC equipment means less air and higher bills. Replacing that system with a newer high efficiency system could significantly reduce your power bills and keep your home comfortable.
