HVAC Servicing can be a Nightmare if you choose the Wrong Company

If your home needs air conditioner maintenance and you’ve never dealt with an HVAC company before, you might think that HVAC servicing is a straightforward process that almost always goes according to plan. But it isn’t; at least, not when you hire the wrong HVAC company. Although most HVAC companies deliver timely, quality service, there are some companies that, if you have the misfortune to encounter them, will make you wonder how they stay in business. From stealing personal possessions to incorrectly installing equipment to taking weeks or months longer than expected to complete a project, some HVAC companies will only bring you grief, and there are some simple steps that you can take to avoid them.

The first and most obvious way to avoid unscrupulous HVAC companies is to check them out by contacting the Better Business Bureau. While it’s not uncommon for companies to have complaints against them at the Better Business Bureau, it is uncommon that a reputable company doesn’t resolve those complaints as quickly as possible. If you see that an HVAC company has unresolved complaints, it’s a good idea to look for a company that doesn’t. Another thing to look for in an HVAC company is its willingness to offer you a time sensitive work contract that offers you a full refund if the job isn’t performed on time. If an HVAC outfit promises to complete the job on time but won’t put that promise in writing; again, it’s a good idea to look for a company that will.

A third critical concern in choosing the right HVAC company is making sure that a company is licensed, bonded and insured. A company that isn’t licensed hasn’t passed an HVAC certification test that shows that they have the technical knowledge to perform HVAC projects, and a company that isn’t bonded and insured doesn’t have insurance coverage to pay for damages that might accidentally occur during a project or as a result of botched projected. In either case, you could get stuck with the bill for repairing the damage or spend years trying to recover damages in civil court.
