Beat the Heat

Beat the heat this summer with Bardi. Here’s a few tips to help you keep cool and your bills low. Make sure to extend the life of your systems with a maintenance plan

  1. Check your air filters
With a spike in dust and allergens in the summer, it’s very important to check your air filters at least once a month to ensure they aren’t clogged. Clogged filters = more energy for the same amount of cool air.
  2. Is it time to replace your HVAC model?
If your HVAC is older than 10 years, it may be time to update with newer, more efficient equipment. Outdated HVAC means less air and higher bills.
  3. Weatherize
A few quick fixes can go a long way. To help keep the cool air in, seal air leaks with caulking and weather stripping, insulation around air ducts.
  4. Use Ceiling Fans
It may seem like no brainer, but using ceiling fans can lower the temperature of a room by eight degrees.
  5. Use Energy-saving Cooking Methods
Opt for the microwave or toaster oven vs. the oven during the day. It’s best to use high-energy appliances in the morning and evening when temperatures aren’t as high.
  6. Power Down
Electronics, appliances and lights create heat when they’re on. Cool down by unplugging when they’re not in use.
  7. Look Out for Debris
All plants, shrubs and other landscaping should be at least 2 feet away from the outdoor unit to ensure adequate airflow.
  8. Keep Windows Covered
Make sure to keep the windows closed and covered during sunny days. Reflect heat away by covering them with light-colored coverings.
  9. Programmable or Smart Thermostat
Keep your house warmer while you’re away in the summer and have it cooled back by the time you get in.
  10. Keep Doors Closed
Closing doors from unused rooms improves efficiency in cooling the space that needs to be cooled.
